Area

We are having fun learning about perimeter and area in our maths time. As part of this learning we have made squares that have an area of 1 square metre. What a lot of different shapes we could make and what a lot of different ways we could work out the total amount of square metres.

  1. Did you know that the "A" series of paper is based on a unit of 1 square metre!
The A0 paper size is 1 metre square. A1 is half of that, A2 is half again, A3 is halved again and A4 (the one we use for printing letters etc.) is half of A3 and so on right down to credit card size. You could try a little experiment by folding or cutting standard "A" series sheets. Good luck.

    1. I hope they try out my suggestions about the "A" series of paper.
I was an engineering design draughtsman then a college lecturer in design, so I am very interested in calculations of areas, volumes, geometry, etc.
