Statistical investigation

This term we've been doing statistics for maths. What better way to learn them, then to use them to improve the school.

To start off we came up with a problem. Votes showed that the majority of the class wanted to create more activities for the shade areas. We got into groups and together we tried to figure out solutions to solve the problem.

The class made a questionnaire that we gave to the seniors. The votes came in and were put on paper. Here are the top five:
A tree hut
A roof over the astro turf
Sails over the senior playground
A bubble machine under the sails
Sails over the fitness trail
The least loved idea was to paint lines for paper plane racing.

We borrowed the COWs (Computers On Wheels) and created a series of different graphs using Excel to display the results. To finish off we wrote letters to Mr Bain with the suggestions. We certainly learned a lot about statistics with the graphs. We discovered which graphs are best for displaying different data.
