EOTC even closer now!

Thank you to all the families who are sorting gear etc with children for next week. It will certainly help the week flow better. Just a wee reminder to those few that haven't yet paid. It would be great if this could be paid by the end of the week. Many thanks. Also please ensure children have a drink bottle and plenty of healthy food next week. We won't be here for Friday Treat lunch. Lets hope the weather is kind to us - it is looking good on the long range forecast. Kind regards

Boating Safety

We were privileged to have Janine and Captain Phil (harbour master) to talk to us about boating safety. They showed us how to correctly wear life jackets, and the things we need to do to be safe when boating.
Thank you to the HB Regional Council for organising this for us

Tyler at Chess.

Tyler was our only class representative at the Hastings District Chess Tournament on Friday. Te Mata did very well - we hope you had a good day Tyler.

Well Done ABs

EOTC week is Coming!

Thank you to all those parents who attended the meeting last week. The information pack will be in bags on Monday night. We would really appreciate these coming back to school as soon as possible so we can continue our planning. It is also a good idea to start thinking about bikes, wetsuits warm clothing, raincoats etc. In the past the weather has ranged from35 degree days to bitterly cold and pouring with rain. It is a fun week.

The Skipathon!

We were sitting around the netball courts and outside room 10, 11, 12 and 13 on the concrete. One at a time each syndicate was invited to 'skip their hearts out'. It was incredibly hot so we were puffing by the end of our segment.
Thank you to our class groups - very impressive double Dutch and tricky moves. Huge thank you to Mrs Barbosa for being the MC

Room 22 have started their term 3 inquiry about volunteering. We have researched about volunteering and created some absolutely amazing posters that are to encourage the community to volunteer. We made slogans, drawings and put a lot of work into them. These are two posters that Ryan F and Daniel made.

Introducing Miss Fisher!

We interviewed Miss Fisher, our new student teacher, to find out more information about her.

Miss Fisher studies at Waikato University which is in Hamilton. She has enjoyed her first few days at Te Mata because everyone has been very welcoming.

What Miss Fisher enjoys most about teaching is working with students and watching them grow and learn. She hopes to get to know each of us more and start teaching next week.

Miss Fisher has always dreamt of being a teacher, especially since she was a student at Te Mata.
Her favourite subject to teach is Literacy and she enjoys running and playing Netball.

We hope you now know a bit more about Miss Fisher!

Interviewed by Amelia, Brooke and Arianna.

Learning to Write Exciting Titles and Beginning Paragraphs.

Today we went and played in the leaves and then had to write a title and the opening paragragh. How could we 'hook' our readers in so they would want to continue reading our work?
These are great examples and we decided we would want to continue reading these two great pieces. Well done!

Five Minutes of Autumn

We sprinted down the path with excitement among us. We smashed into the  piles of sharp crispy brown leaves, and sprung from side to side until we collapsed into the dirt underneath our dirty trainers and bare feet. As soon as we fell, our friends started to cover us in the dusty leaves and laugh tremendously loud using all the energy they had left in their fuel tank. The leaves rustled upon us, dancing around in the autumn wind. It felt like they were tickling us.

By Fletcher and Aston.

The Beauty of Autumn

We were shuffling towards the brightly coloured autumn leaves. We heard the rustling of the leaves as our feet sank into them. We felt the sharp corners and rough edges on the leaves as we delightfully  picked them up. Harrison was slowly getting buried under a mountain of leaves. Laughter floated up into the morning air.

Maths Ideas to Help You Learn at Home

There are some great games on this website. Have a go - they are fun.

http://creatingalearningenvironment.com/20-great-ways-to-learn-multiplication-facts-times-tables/

Week Two Spelling and Vocabulary Words

hymn
solemn
autumn
achieve
diesel.         REMEMBER  - CHOOSE TO LEARN!
fierce
grieve
retrieve
shriek
yield
priest
besiege
pier

Look at the ending of hymn, solemn and autumn. What do you notice?
The other words all have a pattern or 'rule'. What is it? Does it always work?
Do you know any exceptions to this 'rule'?

Think about your own learning!

Project Huia

Amelia stopped in the Manawatu Gorge over the weekend and found this sign. Good spotting Amelia and thank you for sharing it with us.
Does it make any connections with what we have found out since reading the book 'Project Huia' by Des Hunt?

ANZAC Poem written by Sophia

This is a very well written poem. What do you think makes it well written?

ANZAC Assembly

Room 22 put on a very moving Assembly yesterday. It was showing that we can remember the past in different ways - through books, services such as the Dawn Parade and also through song. We asked the school to think about questions they might have and to make connections with what they already know.
